"What's the point of getting onstage and singing music my heart wasn't behind anymore. I might as well sing karaoke in a hotel bar."
-- Mandy on why she left pop music behind - Elle (May 2007)

Mandy Moore Albums

Mandy Moore started her music career with a bang after she released her first album, "So Real" on December 7, 1999 at the tender age of 15. Featuring songs like "Candy" and "Walk Me Home," Moore became a huge hit with young female teenagers. Moore's subsequent album release "I Wanna Be With You," which hit stores on May 9, 2000, became one of her most successful releases to date, topping at #21 in the Billboard Charts. The album was a mix of new songs and tracks from her previous album. The song, "I Wanna Be With You," was released as a lead single and topped out at #17 in the Hot 100 list. Despite all this, Moore practically stood in the shadows of the Big Three that dominated pop music then. Moore could never match the success of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jessica Simpson. It's probably because he didn't show as much skin as they did in music video productions.

As Mandy Moore matured, so did the evolution of her music as evidenced by her 3rd album, self titled "Mandy Moore," which featured songs like "Crush" and "Cry." It is not surprising that an older audience (older teenagers) began to follow her. Moore released "Cry" and "Crush" as singles with corresponding music videos. "Cry" was also featured in "A Walk to Remember," which Moore starred in 2001. The track is also included in the "A Walk to Remember" soundtrack along with a mix of her other pieces performed exclusively for the movie. "Cry" and "Crush" received great press and it changed Moore's image from a one-dimensional singer and dancer to a more sophisticated artist. Her transformation from a blonde-haired person to brunette was no coincidence either. However, "Mandy Moore" didn't reach the levels of her previous releases, which is disappointing.

Moore released her last album to date of original recorded songs on October 21, 2003, titled "Coverage." This album featured songs from the 70's and 80's that Moore grew up with as a child. The record became her most successful release to date, peaking at #14 on the Billboards. Her featured single "Have a Little Faith in Me" became popular with many fans across the world, however it still disappointed on the charts.

After a year of inactivity, while she was focusing on her acting career, Moore's record producer, "Epic Records" (A Sony Company) cut ties with her, but not before they released Moore's last album to date titled "Best of." The album featured all of Moore's hit songs in one package; however, the record didn't seem to fly with fans. It "peaked" at #148 on the Billboards due to lackluster promotion. Heck, even I didn't know about it for a while.

According to recent updates, Mandy Moore signed with Sire Records, a Warner Brothers Music division to develop and and write a new album, something she has yet to successfully accomplish. Moore projected it to be complete sometime in December 2005 and initially would have been ready for release around mid-2006. In mid-2006, the state of affairs changed. Mandy and Sire Records were unable to agree on the content to be featured in the album. Mandy wanted one thing and Sire Records was looking for something else... so by mutual agreement, the two parties split, putting the release of the new album up in the air.

It wasn't until July 7, 2006 that Mandy Moore announced she was back in business with a startup record label named Firm Music. This label gave Mandy Moore the freedom that she seeked and as a result, her newest album will be her most personal and fulfilling. She co-wrote most of the songs on her new album, titled Wild Hope, through collaborations with Lori McKenna, Rachel Yamagata, and The Weepies. This album will likely determine Mandy Moore's future in the music industry. We know she can sing, it's just a matter of whether or not the public will accept Mandy's new, mature image. Instead of knocking up the clubs like Britney Spears or taking her clothes off like Christina Aguilera, Mandy enjoys giving to others through small musical performances to benefit charities. Lately, she has gone around smaller clubs and coffee shops to perform her single "Extraordinary" and it looks like that's how Mandy Moore will treat a tour of Wild Hope after it is released. Wild Hope is her most cherished album and through the process of developing the lyrics, Mandy found a great deal about life as well as herself.
